They have the same number of points as leaders Tusker but with an inferior goal difference
Gor Mahia still retain little hopes of the title
Kakamega Homeboyz will be out to pull a bit more of a distance between them and top placed Tusker FC when they take on Gor Mahia in an FKF Premier League fixture at the Kasarani Annex on Saturday afternoon.
Homeboyz are level on points with defending champions Tusker, but sit second by virtue of a lower goal difference. A win against Gor Mahia in Nairobi will take them three points clear, with Tusker set to play on Sunday against Nzoia Sugar.
Homeboyz also have a match at hand as Tusker’s game against Mathare United next weekend remains cancelled, the latter having been eliminated from the FKF Premier League after issuing three walkovers.
“It will not be an easy game because Gor Mahia are a very tough side. But as a team we have prepared well for it and everyone is determined. We know we are in a very crucial point of the season and we want to maintain our calm and give our best,” said Homeboyz coach Bernard Mwalala.
Homeboyz beat Gor Mahia 2-1 when they met in the first leg in Kakamega, and they will be looking towards a rare double over the record league champions.

Gor meanwhile have an outside chance of vying for the league title. With one match at hand, they are nine points adrift the leaders and victory will slim that gap to six. Basing on the decision of their match against FC Talanta that was called off last weekend, they can be as close as three points away from the top.
Coach Andres Spier has called on his players to give it a good shot and ensure they earn three points against the second placed side.
“We know that there is still an opportunity and we want to go out there and challenge for three points. We have what it takes and I know we can do it,” the coach said.
Gor have won only one of their last five matches, a 1-0 victory against KCB and are under pressure to get back to winning ways. Homeboyz meanwhile have also won one of their last five, also a victory against KCB last weekend.
Nairobi City Stars players before a past match
Meanwhile in other matches, Nairobi City Stars who are also still mathematically in the title race will take on KCB at the Kasarani Annex. City Stars are fourth with 50 points and a win against the bankers will take them three points closer to the leaders.
Coach Nicholas Muyoti believes his squad can still push for the title until the last day and says he is pleased with the fight they have given so far.
Third placed Bandari who are on 53 points can move level with leaders Tusker and Homeboyz if they earn maximum points against Kariobangi Sharks on Sunday.
Elsewhere at the Nyayo National Stadium, AFC Leopards will look to push into the top eight when they take on FC Talanta at the Nyayo National Stadium.
