Since 1830 football became a staple sport in Tunisia and Algeria followed suit a few years later. The national men’s team is always top of the charts thereby pushing Algeria football ranking Africa high.

Algerians love football and it’s safe to say that Algeria is among the best football teams Africa has. To date, the national team has won numerous football championships.

The Algerian National Football Team has had a total of four World Cup appearances. First appearance was in 1982, then 1986, 2010, and 2014.

Algeria football ranking Africa has backing by virtue that the North African country won the Africa Cup of Nations twice.  First in 1990 when they hosted the tournament and again in 2019 in Egypt.

Algeria also won the FIFA Arab Cup in 2021, which they hosted in 1990. They were also the champions of the 1991 Afro-Asian Cup of Nations, and the men’s football tournament of the 1978 All-Africa Games.

It also won the men’s football tournament of the 1975 Mediterranean Games, among others.

WHAT IS ALGERIA RANKED IN FOOTBALL?

After winning the FIFA Arab Cup in 2021, Algeria football ranking Africa climbed to 29th position. It moved three points up the chart according to official data published on its website.

The Desert Warriors are in 29th place with 1516.51 points, right behind Morocco, who have1529.93. The team’s greatest FIFA ranking was 15th in 2014, and its lowest level was 103rd in 2008.

However AFCON 2021 held in Cameroon, Algeria dropped to 43rd position after dismal performance. Algeria’s underwhelming performance at the Africa Cup of Nations resulted in them losing the most points by rank.

To put it another way, the Desert Warriors fell 14 spots. This puts Algeria football ranking Africa at 43rd.

It lost its glory to her North African competitors. Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt are Algeria’s key historic opponents. In the 1980s, Algeria’s strongest football generation faced Nigeria, Mali, and Senegal, all of which share a common border and a longstanding competitive rivalry.

Algeria’s most memorable triumph was a 2–1 victory over West Germany at the 1982 FIFA Globe Cup. This surprised the entire world. Algeria has produced a number of brilliant players over the years.

It became the first African team to score over four goals in a World Cup match against South Korea during the 2014 tournament in Brazil.

Senegal is the crème de la crème of football in Africa. This year’s African Cup of Nations champions, Senegal, not only preserved their status as the highest-ranked African country, but they also rose from 20 places to an impressive 18th place in the world rankings.

The Teranga Lions, who overcame Egypt on penalties in the AFCON final to win their first title, reached their highest-ever ranking.

With a global ranking of 24, Morocco is second in Africa. Northern African rivals Egypt defeated the Atlas Lions in the AFCON 2021 quarterfinals.

According to FIFA, Cameroon comes in third followed by Egypt.

IS ALGERIA QUALIFIED FOR THE WORLD CUP 2022?

Algeria Football Federation (FAF) in March lodged a complaint with FIFA following their defeat by Cameroon in a Qatar 2022 World Cup qualification playoff.

Algeria argued that the referee’s performance in the match’s defeat in Algeria’s stadium, Blida, tainted the result.

FAF said it was relentless in pursuing recourse legally so as to have the match replayed under genuine conditions the federation underscored honesty and impartiality as two things it was looking for in the game. ‘

It asked FIFA to launch a probe into the matter as the November World Cup nears.
