Alain Prost’s careful manner allowed him to compete against Ayrton Senna in the infamous Ayrton Senna-Alain Prost rivalry.

Prost’s secret weapon was both speed and intelligence, and he drove with a natural precision that helped him become France’s first world champion in 1985.

In 1987, he broke Jackie Stewart’s record of 27 victories, and a year later, McLaren won 15 of the 16 races in the season, demonstrating Prost and Senna’s abilities.

Prost remained at the peak of his game until retirement at the age of 38, winning his fourth and last championship for Williams.

Many drivers, including Lewis Hamilton, have come before them, not just in the present generation but also in previous generations.

While Sebastian Vettel‘s form in Formula One isn’t what it used to be, there was a time when he was nearly untouchable.

He became the face of Formula One for the next four years, winning four championships in a row and becoming the youngest world champion (taking the accolade from Lewis Hamilton).

He also set records for most podium finishes, most victories, most pole positions, most laps led most consecutive wins, most consecutive grand slams, and most wins from pole position in a season.

2. Michael Schumacher

Michael Schumacher comes to mind when thinking of the best Formula One driver. Until the rise of Hamilton.

While he won two championships with Benetton, he is most recognized for his time with Ferrari.

He joined the team in 1996; despite some ups and downs in the following years, the team won gold in 2000. Five world titles, 48 victories, and a record book with Michael Schumacher’s name in practically every field followed during the next five years.
