Sharks name Jerim as new keeper trainer, Mathare add punch in survival bid

Kariobangi Sharks new keeper trainer Jerim Onyango

FKF Premier League side Kariobangi Sharks have named Gor Mahia legend Jerim Onyango as their new goalkeeper trainer. Onyango joins Sharks less than a month after being sacked at Gor where he served in the same capacity.

Onyango found himself in the middle of a Gor Mahia purge that took away head coach Mark Harrison and assistant Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo.

Onyango has previously worked with the national Under-17 team and was part of the Harambee Stars technical bench last year, where he worked with current Sharks coach William Muluya.

“I appreciate the opportunity to join Sharks, I feel at home and it’s a working experience moving away from another club. I’m happy and I’m positive with the task at hand,” Onyango said after arriving at the club.

He added; “I’m impressed with their character and attitude, they’re willing to learn and give whatever they have and from the look of things they’re a gifted trio and I’m sure that whatever I will pass on to them will be worth it and I believe they’re up for the task.”

Onyango will come in to a goalkeeping department that was previously handled by Dick Francis and his immense experience.

Meanwhile, Kariobangi Sharks will be back in league action on Friday afternoon when they take on Kenya Police at the Kasarani Annex.

Sharks are placed fifth in the standings and coming into the tie after their loss to City Stars last weekend, will look to bounce back to winning ways.

Meanwhile, Police who signed heavily during the mid-season transfer window will look to get their groove on having won only once in their last five matches. The uniformed forces have drawn four times, results that have been of huge concern for coach John ‘Bobby’ Ogolla.

Among the players who arrived at Police include former Gor Mahia captain Harun Shakava, his former teammate at the club Francis Kahata, striker Elvis Rupia and left back David ‘Messi’ Owino.

Elsewhere, Mathare United have beefed up their squad with the arrival of several new players in their bid to retrieve themselves off the bottom of the standings.

Mathare United’s new signing Donald Ange

The club, which recently roped in John Kamau as their new head coach have signed Congolese striker Donald Ange, fullback Francis Kamau from Ruiru Hot Stars, midfielder Dennis Monda and goalkeeper Richard Ebenyo.

Kamau hopes the arrival of the four new faces will be a boost to their campaign as they look to completely take off the relegation zone. Their win last weekend against FC Talanta took them out of the bottom for the first time.

They are now placed 17th in the standings with 10 points, six away from safety.

Mathare have however lost one of their key players, striker John Mwangi who has moved camp to KCB. Mwangi had been one of the long serving players at the club, having graduated from the youth team to command a consistent starting place.

At the same time, KCB have also snapped up former Tusker FC and Nzoia Sugar left back Hillary Wandera. Wandera was out of contract at Tusker at the start of the year and after talks over an extension stalled, he sought greener pastures.

He had been touted to join Kenya Police, but the two entities could not agree on a move, hence KCB jumped on the opportunity.
