Manchester United has displaced West Ham for fourth place in the Premier League table following a 1-0 win against the Hammers. Marcus Rashford got the dramatic winner with the final kick and scored a late stoppage-time goal at Old Trafford.

The cross was delivered by Edinson Cavani and found his fellow second-half sub on the opposite end of the six-yard box. However, there seemed a hint of offside on Cavani’s position, but the Video Assistant Referee VAR did not flag an error and the goal stood. The game seemed destined for a 0-0 draw with very few chances, with no shots on target in the whole first half.

Each defence clamped down with the stakes being high and the coveted fourth-place position on the line. Fred’s point-blank blast in the 50th minute was arguably the best look at goal in the match before the goal, but West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola came up with the stop on that chance.

However, Ronaldo went down under a challenge from West Ham United defender Kurt Zouma in less than 10 minutes before the break. A number of United fans hit out referee Jonathan Moss for his refusal to awards the united superstar a penalty during the afternoon clash against West Ham United.

Unfortunately, the experienced Premier League referee waved away the Portuguese star protest, signalling play on as VAR had close scrutiny at the incident. Despite carrying some knocks, veterans Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani were in the starting squad, against the Hammers.

Manchester United fans were all saying the same thing about Diogo Dalot as the Portuguese full-back was praised for his first-half display against West Ham. The two Champions League chasers could not be separated at the break with the only flashpoint coming in the West Ham box after the referee waved away appeals for a penalty after Kurt Zouma appeared to man-handle Cristiano Ronaldo.

Dalot, who was named man of the match by BT Sport in the over the week win against Brentford, continued to catch fans’ eyes as he continues to keep Aaron Wan-Bissaka out of the starting XI. John McGinn shows why Manchester United should target him in the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old has been a subject to interest from abroad prior to the January transfer window but his integration into the team has seen him become a first-team regular extinguishing talk of him leaving Manchester United this month.

United supporters were left delighted by the full-backs showing in the first 45 as the Red Devils looked to make ground up on the Hammers who occupy the final Champions League position. Dalot’s capabilities have brought delight to the united faithful as a weakness in the defence gets rectified without splashing out in the transfer window.

The 22-year old has replaced Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back, who has been subject to criticism for his performances this season after failing to offer an attacking threat down the right. Following United’s fourth home defeat of the season to Wolves, the 24-year-old came under fire for his efforts in both final thirds of the pitch.
