Ghana and Gabon Group C fixture

The African Cup of Nations 2021 continues on Friday, January 14 with four games in 2022 and concludes with the final on Sunday, February 6. The 2021 AFCON tournament was formally scheduled to be played between June and July 2021 but was rescheduled by the Confederation of African Football CAF to January and February 2022 due to unfavorable climatic conditions. The tournament is being held in Cameroon between January 9 and February 6, 2022.

Twenty-four teams are taking part. The action kicked off with hosts Cameroon beating Burkina Faso in Yaounde and will culminate in the final on February 6 at the same Olembe Stadium venue.

Morocco is looking for back-to-back wins from their opening two games at the Africa Cup of Nations, but head coach Vahid Halilhodzic has highlighted his concerns about the fitness of a number of his players.

Halilhodzic’s squad are struggling with positive Covid -19 cases and injury concerns ahead of their Group C match against tournament debutants Comoros, a team ranked 132nd in the world. Morocco beat Ghana 1-0 in their opening match and victory at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium on Friday should secure qualification to the knockout stage.

Ghana looks forward to kickstarting their campaign when they take on Gabon in the other Group C fixture in Yaounde. Elsewhere on Friday, Guinea take on Senegal, whose head coach Aliou Cisse says the coronavirus pandemic had taken a heavy toll on his squad as he looked ahead to their second Group B game at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

A number of players have been affected by Covid-19 cases and Senegal has chosen 27 players, there are more probable starting eleven lists, but for sure the squad is unbalanced due to a number of absentees, citing that playing football in empty stadiums is not nice; in this Africa Cup, it is really sad to see empty stands.

It is not psychologically nice, then, of course, the mental aspects of the Coronavirus pandemic, the prevention of the players and constantly asking them to keep their masks on is not easy to leave their teams, families and to stay in a closed room wait to be told they are either positive or negative.

Malawi faces Zimbabwe in the other game in Group B in Bafoussam.
