3 precious things Diego Maradona family is auctioning.

Just over a year after his death, fans of Diego Maradona will be able to bid on some of the soccer star’s memorabilia at an auction on Sunday.

Items up for auction include his famous cigars, a pair of BMW automobiles, and the luxurious property that Maradona bought for his parents.

Diego Maradona ‘10 Auction’

His family is holding a ‘10 auction’ named after the number of his Argentina jersey on which he captained his country to World Cup victory in 1986. The auction is part of the family’s strategy to generate revenue legal proceedings continue in allocating his property.

Adrian Mercado, head of the auction house, told Reuters that Maradona’s children Okayed the auction.

“The five children (recognized children of Maradona) through their lawyers agreed and it was possible to carry out this event in order to raise money. This is only to pay expenses. There are many, many things with nostalgic value,” Mercado says.

There will be no profit from this sale, according to Mercado. However, he says that it’s true that there are a lot of things that have a sense of nostalgia in Maradona’s wealth.

Online Auction

The online auction will begin at 11:00 a.m. local time on Sunday (0800 GMT). The mansion Maradona donated to his parents in the Villa Devoto area of Buenos Aires in the 1980s is one of the most costly items to be auctioned. Starting at $900,000, it will be available.

Maradona once drove a $225,000 BMW 750 onto the pitch in the collection. Other high-end automobiles can be found here as well.

In addition to memorabilia from Maradona’s career, the auction will feature 87 lots of memorabilia from his personal collection, including caps, photos, and memorabilia from his friendship with late Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

In fact, Mercado predicts a large turnout because of the event’s focus on the late football legend.

“Big fans of Diego, who I think will be the ones taking part, will be able to take something home as a souvenir, I have no doubt,” said Mercado, who expects a high turnout.

“I estimate that at least 10,000, 15,000, or even 20,000 people will see the event. Probably many more,” he stated. “I hope it’s something out of the ordinary, like all the things that Diego showed us in his life.”

Diego Maradona Greatest Footballer

Maradona remains one of the greatest soccer players ever. The former Barcelona player was born in 1950 in the slums of Buenos Aires. His parents of mixed descent gave him their best but life changed for him when he was only eight years old.

He joined Argentinos Juniors and trained with the Academy until he joined La Liga and later Serie A. During his football career, he became the world’s greatest footballer.

He was one of the two joint winners of the FIFA Player of the 20th Century award. Though short in stature, his football skill – dribbling, low centre of gravity and speed – always stunned the world.

It gave him a lifeline in his soccer career and a great start to his football coaching.

Maradona had an eventful and troubled life that earned him a devoted following but also saw him battle drug and alcohol addiction, as well as poor health.

Heart Attack

At the age of 60, Diego Maradona died on November 25 due to a heart attack.

At first, reports indicated that the football legend succumbed to a heart attack after contracting coronavirus. He had undergone brain surgery moments before his death.

However five days after his death, Argentine police arrested seven doctors believed to have been involved in Maradona’s death. They were charged with simple homicide with eventual intent.

According to ESPN San Isidro, Prosecutors said investigations showed motive by the accused persons to end the soccer star’s life. Among those arrested were the footballer’s personal doctor Leopoldo Luque, his psychiatrist Augustina Cosachov and psychologist Carlos Diaz.

Maradona’s family petitioned Argentine’s medical board to investigate their kin’s death.

He died two weeks after being discharged from the hospital in Buenos Aires after undergoing successful brain surgery.

Diego Maradona Family Suing Former Coach Stefano Ceci

Maradona’s family in November said it would sue Stefano Ceci, his former manager. This followed controversy on the use of Maradona’s imagery in a new kit by Napoli.

The family of the late Argentine footballer is accusing Ceci of failing to seek its consent in the Napoli deal.

Napoli got a new kit launched in early November to wear it in Serie A to commemorate Maradona who died in November 2020 aged 60.  Napoli has a new t-shirt with Maradona’s image emblazoned on it.

Maradona’s family said the new jersey by Napoli lacked consent which is a prerequisite to such a move. His son Diego Maradona Junior argued that they still hold imagery rights for the football legend.

Maradona Jr said that the Italian club was misled by Ceci who did not bother seeking consent from the family.
