Neymar to miss Nantes meeting, a doubt for Manchester City clash

Neymar has been ruled out of Paris Saint-Germain’s Ligue 1 clash against Nantes on Saturday and is a doubt for next week’s Champions League visit to Manchester City, according to reports.

After starting his country’s World Cup qualifying victory over Colombia, Neymar missed the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier goalless draw with Argentina on Tuesday and returned to France having complained of pain in his left thigh, although he was reportedly spotted partying in Sao Paulo in the meantime.

The 29-year-old winger has undergone scans back in Paris and was absent from training on Thursday, and according to L’Equipe, the results have revealed some damage to his adductor muscles which automatically rules him out for Saturday’s clash with Nantes and will remain to be seen if he will be ready ahead of the visit to Manchester City on Wednesday, 24 November.

The injury comes as a big blow to Mauricio Pochettino’s side as they have to defeat Manchester City in Etihad for them to stand a chance to qualify as group leaders into the round-16 of the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League.

It’s a big match at the Etihad, with the two financial giants clubs battling it out for a top spot in Group A and just one point between them as it stands with two matches remaining to play in the group stages.

The Cityzens currently lead the way, and Neymar’s potential absence will give them more belief that they can seal the top spot on the night with a win or even a draw and a win against RB Leipzig.

PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino will be boosted by the returns of Marco Verratti and Presnel Kimpembe, who were both back in full training on Thursday – as was summer signing Sergio Ramos, who is in line to make the matchday squad at the weekend having finally overcome the injury problems that have plagued him during his time in Paris so far.

It was also reported that injured Marco Verratti and Presnel Kimpembe, who had suffered hip and thigh injuries respectively, took part in full training for a second consecutive day on Thursday, and they are likely to feature at the weekend as PSG looks forward to extending their lead at the top of Ligue 1 with a win over Nantes.

PSG are currently sitting on top of Ligue 1 with 34 points after 13 rounds of matches, losing once and drawing once in the process. They are 10 points off the second-placed Lens and are looking set to return the title they lost in 2020/2021 to Lille.

Neymar has had a quiet season in the league for PSG scoring three goals in eight matches but he has been a provider on the other side, assisting three goals in the process.
