Julian Nagelsmann has tested positive for covid-19 Bayern Munich has confirmed. The Bayern Munich coach did not take his usual duties on the touchline in yesterday’s Champions League win against Benfica due to a flu-like infection.

After travelling with his team in Lisbon Nagelsmann was confirmed unwell and his assistants Dino Toppmoller and Xaver Zembrod oversaw his duties.

Bayern Munich and Benfica brought to us another exciting match to watch on Wednesday after Tuesday game between Liverpool against Atletico Madrid.

In a more intense, pressing football from Bayern Munich, Benfica lost gas and Leroy Sane was on target to fire home a 70th-minute goal that ended the game in a 4-0 winner in favour of Bayern.

On their official website Bayern Munich confirmed this saying;  “Julian Nagelsmann, 34, head coach of FC Bayern Munich, tested positive for the coronavirus despite being completely vaccinated,”

“He will return to Munich separately from the team in a medical plane and will go into domestic isolation.”

Earlier reports claimed that Nagelsmann began to feel unwell in the team hotel in Lisbon and thus decided to stay behind when the rest of the Bayern squad made their way to the game as a precautionary measure.

Nagelsmann will miss their clash with Hoffenheim this weekend on Saturday.

German health protocols require people who have tested positive for the virus and are double vaccinated, to self-isolate until a negative PCR test is provided. If the person does not, isolation ends after 14 days.

And if Nagelsmann’s isolation does not end until the 14 days have expired, and he makes a full recovery, Bayern Munich will be without their head coach for four matches.

Following on is a Wednesday night (October 27) fixture against Borussia Mönchengladbach in DFB-Pokal and a league match on the weekend after against Union Berlin. The fourth Champions League group stage match against Benfica will be the final match Nagelsmann could miss.
