Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Tusker FC have continued bolstering their squad with the arrival of three more players ahead of the new season. The brewers have roped in goalkeeper Brian Bwire and defender Daniel Sakari as well as attacking midfielder Shami Kibwana.
The three will strengthen the squad that already had in the Tanzanian duo of Ibrahim Joshua and Kalos Kirenge as well as midfielder Teddy Osok, keeper Patrick Matasi, Clyde Senaji, John Njuguna and Charles Momanyi.
Bwire’s arrival will offer immense competition in the goalkeeping department with the club having also signed Matasi from Ethiopian club St. George and the presence of Rwandese number one Emery Mvuyekure.
The Rwandese has been in good form for his country and had two amazing performances in their World Cup qualifying matches against Mali and Kenya.
However, Bwire, who was also part of the Kenyan team at the World Cup qualifiers but didn’t play, believes he is not afraid of competition.
“I believe in myself and I believe to be a top player, you have to beat the best. I know competition will be tough but I am ready for it. I know I can be able to become the number one choice here and I will work hard towards it,” said the keeper who has come through the ranks at Kariobangi Sharks.
He added; “I am glad to be joining Tusker because it is a winning team. They have just come from winning the league and that momentum is what we want to keep going and ensure we defend the title. I am also excited at the prospect of playing continental football because that is a big stage,” further said the goalkeeper.
Meanwhile, Sakari believes the move to Tusker will be a positive step in his career. Sakari joined Sharks from Kakamega Homeboyz and has been a revelation for the past two seasons and this year has made the right back role at the national team level his own.
He was slowed down by injury, but is slowly picking up and will be a force to reckon with at Tusker.
“This is a positive step in my career because Tusker is a bigger team and comes with a lot of pressure. There is also immense competition in the team and as a footballer, that is what you always want. Where there is competition, you grow and improve. I am ready for the challenge,” said Sakari.
At the same time, Kibwana’s addition to Tusker will be a huge relief especially after losing Henry Meja who joined Swedish side AIK. Kibwana was a lethal goalscorer for Homeboyz last season, scoring 10 goals from midfield position.
His creativity in midfield and prowess moving forward is an ingredient that Tusker will require in their campaign to retain the title.
“I am happy to join this great team where I hope to make another step in my career. This is a big club with big expectations and definitely as a player, I have to step up and do better.”
“I had a good period with Homeboyz last season where I scored goals despite battling injuries all season. I hope to do even better especially if I can avoid injuries. I want to keep scoring goals for Tusker,” he added.
The brewers released 11 players at the end of the season and are expected to add three more youngsters.
