150,000 Lionel Messi Numbered Shirts Sell In 20 Minutes

Lionel Messi’s move to France started off things on the right note for his new club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

When he touched down in Paris on Tuesday, August 10, PSG provided Messi’s shirt emblazoned with his name and number “30”.

They sold all the 150,000 pieces in just 20 minutes each going for €107.99 thereby generating €16,198,500 in total sales.

This goes down to history as one of the biggest sales of all time the French League stars.

Number “30” emblazoned in Messi’s shirt carries a lot of significance. He wore this shirt at Barcelona, his former club that he played for religiously for 21 years.

Ligue 1 allowed PSG exclusive rights to have the number on the Argentinian striker’s shirt since it is a reserve for goalkeepers only.

The massive jersey sale came with a multitude of PSG fans thronging the streets to welcome the new kid on the block.

Messi will be with PSG for two years going by the terms of his contract. Surprisingly, PSG is not only celebrating great sales with the inclusion of Messi in its star lineup.

New Instagram Followers

The club is enjoying almost triple-digit growth in the number of followers on Instagram. PSG in the last three days hit 44.3 million followers, a number that was below 20 million before Messi’s major move.

Millions of new accounts are following PSG’s Instagram page. According to the French national newspaper L’Equipe, adding more than 200,000 new followers have joined via Facebook.

Messi will now share exciting moments with Brazillian top player Neymar who also plays for PSG.

It was an emotional exit from Barcelona for the 34-year-old forward. He couldn’t hold back tears as he bid farewell to his former club pitch buddies at Camp Nou.

Where Is Messi Staying In Paris?

Mundo Deportivo reports that Messi together with his wife Antonella Messi and their three kids are living in the prestigious Le Royal Monceau hotel in Paris.

On its Instagram page, the hotel also shared a photo of the former Barcelona forward with Sergio Ramos who left Real Madrid for PSG in the new summer signings.

“What an honour to welcome such a talented player to PSG!” Le Royal Monceau captioned the post.

Le Royal Monceau has a history of welcoming warmly new PSG signings a case in point being that of Neymar. The Santos player stayed at the Paris Hotel for a while after moving to France in 2017.

He called this home before he got his permanent residence in the capital.

Messi’s accommodation costs £17,000 per night. He describes the whole experience in Paris as “new” and lauds the city as “beautiful”.

Unknown to many, Le Royal Monceau opened in 1928 in the French Capital. It has a reputation for fine dining in the city.
