Fernanda Aguirre,A Chilean Taekwondo competitor will miss out the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after she tested positive for covid-19 in Tokyo.
The Athlete tested positive upon the arrival in Tokyo from Uzbekistan where she had been training in preparation for the Olympic games
This is according to a Chilean Olympic committee in a statement on Tuesday that Aguirre is in a good health but won’t be able to compete due to the Japanese authorities on covid-19 protocols and she’ll have to be quarantined for the next ten days of while the Tokyo 2020 Olympics starts on Friday.
“(She) is asymptomatic and in good health, but unfortunately will not be able to compete because the Japanese authorities impose a 10-day quarantine,” The committee said on Tuesday.
Her coach stated that She has been moved to an isolation facility.
Aguirre expressed her feeling on social media saying she’s “destroyed and Sad”
She won a bronze medal at the 2019 Pan American Games.
Earlier on Wednesday another Athlete, a Dutch skateboarder Candy Jacobs shared her disappointments after she tested positive ahead of Olympic competition.
Jacobs through her Instagram handle described herself as ‘heartbroken’ that she has been doing everything to see her avoid the scenario.
“done everything in my power to prevent this scenario and took all the precautions”.
“Unfortunately I was tested positive for Covid-19 this morning, which means my Olympic journey ends here,” the 31-year-old said.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games ceremony is set to be held on Friday in Tokyo Japan
