Harambee Stars striker Olunga available for Comoros match - Sports Leo

Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga will be available for selection after he tested negative for Covid-19 yesterday.

The on-form Kashiwa Reysol forward was a doubt for the team’s crucial Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) Group G qualifier against Comoros on Wednesday after 13 players and staff at his Japanese side including the coach Nelsinho Baptista tested positive for the virus.

Japan’s Levian Cup final scheduled to be played this Saturday was cancelled due to the developing news.

Olunga has netted 24 times in the Japanese J-League and will now lead Harambee Stars attacking.

Harambee Stars coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee who replaced Francis Kimanzi last month had recalled Masoud Juma to replace Olunga in the provisional squad.

Foreign players expected to arrive in the camp include Ayub Timbe who is expected to report today while Egypt-based duo of Cliff Nyakeya (Masr FC) and John Avire (Tanta FC) alongside UD Las Palmas’ midfielder Ismael Gonzalez are expected to arrive tomorrow.

The team will be led by captain Victor Wanyama who is expected in the country by Sunday from Impact Montreal. Goalkeeper Arnold Origi and Josephy Olumu are other foreign players expected to jet in by Sunday as well.
