Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson insists that Mohamed Salah deserves a bigger press due to his outstanding numbers with the club.
Salah marked his 100th goal in just 159 appearances when he netted a goal for Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.
Only Roger Hunt – Liverpool’s record league goalscorer – and Jack Parkinson – prolific goalscorer at the start of the 20th century – have reached the milestone quicker than Salah.
Nevertheless, the midfielder believes Salah’s influence on the Reds extends beyond his goal-scoring prowess.
“Mo’s numbers are jaw-dropping,” the skipper wrote in his column for tonight’s official matchday programme, according to One Football.
“He’s achieved his century in just 159 appearances – that is computer game stuff!
“I read that Mo got to this milestone in the third-quickest time in LFC history. The other two Liverpool players who got to a century quicker are Roger Hunt and Jack Parkinson – and we are going back quite a long time. It just emphasises the enormity of his contribution.
“I shouldn’t be surprised, but it yet again underlines just how blessed we all are to be working with him, or be a supporter of this club at the time he is here with us.
“Not for one minute do I think Mo is taken for granted; he 100 per cent isn’t by anyone associated with our club at least. But I do think the level of his achievement maybe deserves a little more recognition in the game.”
Last season, he came close but was only fifth in the league’s top scorer chat with 19 goals – Jamie Vardy the top scorer with 23 strikes – with Liverpool winning the Premier League trophy after a 30-year wait.
The former AS Roma player netted an incredible 32 goals in 36 league matches during his debut season for the Merseyside club in 2017/18 Premier League campaign.
Salah is already a two-time winner of the African Player of the Year award – claiming the title in 2017 and 2018.
