The Sudan football Premier League resumed on Wednesday after a six-month hiatus due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The Sudan Premier League was abruptly halted on March 17, due to the Covid-19 pandemic with seven match days to spare.
Last week the Sudan Football Association (SFA) competitions division announced the schedule of the coming four match days.
As per the SFA decision, the remaining fixtures will only take place in State of Khartoum stadiums, with eight games taking place at the stadiums of Khartoum, Hilal, Merreikh and Omdurman with the league resumption.
Al Hilal tops the charts with 51 points, three more than eternal rivals El Merreikh in second place on goal difference ahead of Hilal Al Ubayyid in third. Al Amal Atbara is currently fourth with 46 points.
The North African nation to date has recorded 13 535 Covid-19 infections, with 6 759 recoveries and 836 deaths. Until May, Sudan had less than 1000 cases in total, but since then has experienced a steep rise in numbers. Sudan’s active infections stood at 4699 on June 20 and remained around that number until mid-August. As of Wednesday, the active infections stood at 5940.
In May, two Sudan officials died from Covid-19. Khair Al-Sayed Abdelgader, chairman of the futsal and beach soccer committee and Faisal Youseif, vice chairman of the national team’s committee, were the two officials.
