Zimbabwe cricket coach Lalchand Rajput has devised individual training plans for his players, as they attempt to keep fit in their respective homes during the lockdown.

Zimbabwe on Sunday extended its national lockdown by two weeks in the fight against the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

“We have given a training programme for the players,” said Rajput.

“The activities we have included are the ones which can be done at home like skipping, side to side running. We have also included stretching and yoga activities.

“Skipper Sean Williams messages me sometimes about what he does, also one or two others are also in touch with me. Not all players are from Harare.

He has also assigned technical batting drills for the players to keep their reactions good.

“I have asked the trainer to follow up with the players on a day-to-day basis and he informs me on a weekly (basis) about the development.”

Despite their best efforts to keep fit individually, Rajput said there would have to be time set aside for the players to train together once the lockdown is lifted.

“Once the action resumes, it won’t be feasible to immediately start the tours as they will need practice.”

Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has not yet postponed its tour to Afghanistan in June with five T20 Internationals scheduled between the nations. Though it seems highly unlikely the tour will take place, ZC has not communicated any plans to postpone the tour.
