Springbok Women’s team keeping busy on social media

Springbok Women’s team keeping busy on social media - Sports Leo

The Springbok Women’s Sevens team were due to contest the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series tournament in Stellenbosch last weekend, but instead, the Imbokodo found themselves in lockdown, like all other sports teams.

Their carefully planned training programme and ambitions to become a core team on the World Rugby Sevens Series in 2020/21 came to nothing as the tournament was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now, instead of playing in front of supporters, the squad reverted to social media to “introduce” themselves to fans and followers, in a series of videos titled “seven things you did not know about me”.

The first seven tweets revealed some interesting admissions from the Imbokodo.

Former sprinter Alyssa Conley spoke about her versatility in the kitchen.

Catha Jacobs, a World Series debutant at the Cape Town Sevens, revealed which sport she excelled in before rugby sevens while Buhle Sonamzi introduced her dog, Romeo, to the audience.

Some of the players also have some hidden musical talents – Mathrin Simmers sang in the church choir and Christelene Steinhobel revealed her prowess on the acoustic guitar.
