Ibrahim Kamara on Sunday was fired as the Ivory Coast football team coach following a meeting of the Ivorian Football Federation (Fif) executive.

“Following the meeting of the Executive Committee on February 13, the president of the Ivorian Football Federation met with national coach Ibrahim Kamara. At the end of courteous exchanges, the parties decided by mutual agreement to put an end to their collaboration,” said Fif in a statement.

Kamara was named coach of the Elephants in June 2018 and led the side to the Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2019, bowing out of the competition in the quarters after losing to eventual champions Algeria on penalties.

His tenure has been under consideration ever since their 2-1 defeat away to Ethiopia in the qualifiers of the Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2021 showpiece.

Fif are expected to announce a new coach before the next month’s Afcon 2021 double-header qualifiers against Madagascar.
