Egypt began their hunt for another title Futsal Africa Cup of Nations with an easy 9-0 win over debutants Guinea in Laayoune on Wednesday.
The Pharaohs were in a class of their own with Ahmed Mohamed and Mostafa Khalaf scoring a brace while Abdelrahman Mohamed, Khaled Said, skipper Elmoatazbellah Abdelhalim, Mohamed Abdelrazek and Mohamed Mohamed, added one each.
Egypt led 2-0 at half time, but Guinea should have made the score-line more decent had they made most of their chances.
Ahmed opened the scoring with a shot from range that drove through the keeper’s legs after Ibrahim Ayed’s dummy sold him out. They were 2-0 up with after Ayed rolled back a freekick for Abdelrahman who took a one-time shot past the keeper.
The Guineans had several chances to reduce the deficit and even go ahead but were wasteful with the final decision-making on the fast breaks. Jean Baruxakis came close with a shot that came off the upright, while he had another saved.
After the interval, Egypt scored two goals in quick succession to stretch their lead to 4-0. Ahmed scored his second of the game after playing a quick one-two with Khaled while the keeper was off his line. From the restart, Egypt won back possession and Khaled scored with a left-footed pile diver, the keeper left dazed.
The Egyptians were not done yet as Abdelhalim made it 5-0 with 11 minutes to play with another long-range effort. Again, Guinea conceded back-to-back goals to make the mountain even bigger to scale.
Khalaf scored his first with a cheeky dink over the keeper with seven minutes and 55 seconds to go and Mohamed then stretched the lead further with a low shot that rolled straight through the keeper’s legs.
Egypt kept in destructive form as Abdelrazek scored the eighth from the penalty spot and Khalaf completed his brace with an unstoppable shot from the right.
The victory sees Egypt take a comfortable leap to lead Group B.
Futsal is a smaller, hard-court version of traditional grass-pitch football.
