Tanzania trounce Burundi 4 0 in East Africa Challenge Cup match

Defending champions Tanzania defeated Burundi 4-0 in a Group A match on Monday at the Cecafa Women’s Senior Challenge Cup tournament at the Chamazi Stadium in Dodoma, Tanzania.

The win will be enough to see Tanzania through to the Cecafa (Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations) semifinals.

Donisia Daniel Minja gave Tanzania in the lead after 35 minutes. She worked her way past a shaky Burundian defence and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Jeanine Irakoze.

The Burundi defence held out for the rest of the half and prevent further damage.

Thanks to a tactical change in the second half, Tanzania managed to breach the Burundi defence just past the hour mark when Minja scored her second goal. The Burundi defence had to answer to slick passing to Tanzania’s attacking build-up.

After this setback, Burundi’s coach Daniella Niyibimenya made some changes, but to no avail.

In the 72nd minute Tanzania went further through skipper Asha Saada Rashid and a few minutes before the end, Omary Shurua Mwanahamisi added her name to the scoresheet.

It was hardly the result Burundi expected after they walloped Zanzibar 5-0 in their opening match.
