CAF 2021 Total AFCON: Mozambique net two past Rwanda

CAF 2021 Total AFCON: Mozambique net two past Rwanda - Sports Leo

Mozambique’s Mambas kicked off their CAF 2021 Total African Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign with a well-worked 2-0 victory against Rwanda’s Amavubi in Maputo on Thursday night.

This win takes Mozambique to the top of Group F with three points. The Mambas are two points ahead of Cameroon and Cape Verde who played to a goalless draw on Wednesday night.

Edson Sitoe broke the deadlock for the Mozambicans from the penalty spot in the 28th minute to give the home fans reason to celebrate. However, the noise levels were raised even higher just a minute later when Stelio Ernesto slammed home the second.

Rwanda tried to fight their way back into the game, but they couldn’t hit the target despite creating a few scoring chances.

The Amavubi hope to bounce back at home on Sunday when they face the Indomitable Lions in Kigali.

Mozambique can pull clear in the group if they bag maximum points in their away trip to the Cape Verde Islands.
