Ghana’s Andre Ayew to stick with Swansea amid interests

Andre Ayew commits to Swansea City - Sports Leo

Ghana striker Andre Ayew has opted to stay with English Championship club Swansea City.

It was expected that the 29-year-old would leave Swansea after spending last season on loan at Fenerbahce In Turkey.

While Ayew admitted there had been interests in his services, from clubs like Lazio, Werder Bremen, Schalke 04 and Sampdoria, in the end, he decided to remain at the Liberty Stadium.

“I’ll be honest and say I have had several offers from some major clubs abroad,’’ he told Swansea’s official website. “The club was aware of the options, but made it clear they wanted me to stay.

“I’m really enjoying my football at Swansea and I’d like nothing more than to stay part of this squad.

“Everyone at the club has welcomed me back with open arms from my loan spell at Fenerbahce and I really believe in what the head coach (Steve Cooper) and the club are trying to achieve.”

Ayew initially joined Swansea in 2015 and scored 12 goals in 35 Premier League appearances in his first season.

After that, he signed for West Ham the following year before returning to the Welsh club in 2018.

His decision certainly seems to have paid off as he played in Swansea’s victory over Leeds United on Saturday – a result that sees his team at the top of the Championship standings.
