The cream of South African junior tennis will be showcasing their skills in the Western Cape where two Curro International Tennis Federation (ITF) Under-18 tournaments take place at the Maties Tennis Club in Stellenbosch, starting Saturday.
The junior Grade 4 tournament takes place starts 31 August through to 8 September. The bigger level Grade 2 event takes place from 9 to 14 September.
For the seventh consecutive year, the annual event will take place at the Coetzenburg world-class facility that has seven hard courts.
International ranking points will be on offer.
Lloyd Harris, who will be in action at the US Open this week, has previously played in these events. This year leading South African juniors like Kholo Montsi, Robbie Arends and Delien Kleinhans will participate.
Le Roux Conradie, the tournament organiser, said: “We remain privileged to have Stellenbosch as the place of choice for junior events on the ITF tennis circuit.
“We have excellent playing facilities at Maties and we are looking forward to two weeks of tournament action.
“This is the seventh edition of this tournament, and with each year, we strive towards an improved event and an experience for guests coming down to the Western Cape.
“There will be a strong international representation with players coming from all parts of the world.”
Some of the visiting juniors are from United States, Germany and the Netherlands.
The two tournaments will serve as warm-up events for the Samaai Junior Open at Kelvin Grove Club in Cape Town from 16-21 September.
The Junior Grade A tournament, named after tennis legend David Samaai, is a major attraction as it carries the highest-ranking points on the ITF Junior Circuit, outside of the four Junior Grand Slams.
