Uganda beat Tanzania in Cecafa Championship to top group

Uganda beat Tanzania - Sports Leo

Uganda U-15 continued to make their impressive run in the Cecafa junior championship tournament in Eritrea, defeating their neighbours Tanzania 2 – 0.

Uganda took the lead 27 minutes into the first half when Travis Mutyaba slotted home a free-kick from 27 yards after Abbas Kyeyune had been fouled.

The energetic midfielder then sealed the victory for his team and grabbed a brace in the injury time after Patrick Ouke, coming on as a substitute played him through to goal.

Tanzania looked to threaten earlier on to equalise, but failed to find the back of the net, with Peter Gubya, who had been selected ahead of Daniel Mukisa in goal, made fine saves with skipper Vincent Mulema, Caros Kaddu and Peter Gaya manning the backline.

“I am happy we have won our second game and majorly against Tanzania. My players played well according to instructions and the result is encouraging,” Uganda U-15 head coach Jackson Magera said after the game.

His side kicked off the junior tournament campaign with a convincing 3 – 0 win against Ethiopia in their opening match, who were making a historical return to the tournament.

Uganda now leads its Group B with maximum points after two games, ensuring they progress to the next round.
