Media outlets in England have described Manchester United’s pursuit of Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernades as ‘exaggerated in Portugal’.
Fernandes’ emotional breakdown following a 2 – 1 friendly defeat to Valencia suggested a ‘hint’ that the 24-year-old could be on the flight to Old Trafford.
It is believed that United are ‘readying’ a transfer fee of €72 million (£64.9 million) with a further €5 million (£4.5 million) in add-ons, culminated with a five-year contract worth €30 million (£27 million).
However, it is said that Sporting will try to detain the negotiations for their star man to be available in the Portuguese Super Cup final against Benfica on August 4.
Correio da Manhã also had an update saying that the player’s agent was ‘in England intensifying negotiations’ over the weekend, and now says the aforementioned friendly ‘can mark the farewell’ of Fernandes.
SkySports though reveal that United’s ‘interest is not as strong as is being suggested’ and that ‘the level of that interest is being exaggerated in Portugal’.
Fernandes ‘is one of a number of names being considered’ after United ‘watched the player through their global scouting network’, the report adds.
United Head coach Ole Gunnar Solkjaer is determined to enforce his midfield with the future of Paul Pogba still uncertain.
